Pearl River County Board of REALTORS

South Mississippi is home to Pearl River County. We are about one hour north of New Orleans, less than 20 miles west of the Gulf of Mexico, and less than 30 miles south of Hattiesburg. We are within one hour’s drive to two international airports.

Pearl River County is the 2nd largest county in MS featuring over 810 miles of land and more than 8 square miles of water. According to the 2010 census, 55,834 people called this home.  We are the fastest growing county in MS with an astounding 14.85% annual increase which beats the 9.71% National growth average. It’s no wonder so many people are attracted to our county, we have so much to offer!

We boast about our climate with an average of 218 sunny days per annum, and an average snowfall of zeroinches. The average temperature in January is a brisk 40 and July’s temperature is just right for swimming at 92 degrees.  There’s always something to do in PRC. For sporting enthusiasts there’s year-round swimming with indoor and outdoor pools, creeks with white sandy beaches, public & private 18-hole golf courses; driving ranges; tennis, soccer, bowling, walking tracks and plenty of fitness centers. There are clubs for almost every group: knitting, weaving, singing, quilting, men’s and women’s golf clubs, there’s even a Newcomer’s club to get our newest residents off to a good start!

If you like gardening or want to learn about it we have The Crosby Arboretum, featuring over 64 acres of gardens, walking trails, and offering classes and fun family events. Children’s sporting groups are offered for all age groups in T-ball, baseball, football, tennis, softball, soccer, golf and swimming, cheerleading and dance.

We value our education! Pearl River County Community College was this state’s 1st community college and today’s enrollment is at about 5,700. We have 3 high schools within three separate school districts, several private and church sponsored elementary schools. And in keeping with our most philanthropic state, there is also a Volunteer group for everyone.

We also have our own radio station, 2 newspapers, several on-line blogs, and 2 libraries. Our county is not without spirit! We love public events such as the annual Blues-Out; Blueberry Festival; BBQ Competitions, and Chili Cook-Off; Street Fairs; Antique Car Shows; art exhibitions, and Craft shows. We celebrate Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Pearl’s annual Masked Ball and Parade. We also celebrate Christmas with a parade and two parades of homes on tour, as well as candlelight Christmas shopping downtown. Pearl River County is more than a “county”, it’s home!
